FLORIDA GOLF CART INSURANCE QUOTES

Golf carts and low-speed vehicles (LSVs) have become a way of life in Florida. From tee to green or around your local community, it is important to know that homeowners and auto policies may not cover you in the event of an accident. Florida does not require insurance for golf carts, but low-speed vehicles (LSVs) are a separate category and are required to have minimum coverage. Even though a standard golf cart is not required to have insurance, not having coverage may carry steep financial risk. Polices for these types of vehicles are very affordable and may even be required by Home Owners Associations or Country Clubs. If you have a golf cart or are considering one, we can put you in contact with a local agent and we will help you find the right coverage at the right price.

FLORIDA DEFINTION OF A GOLF CART

Golf carts are defined as “a motor vehicle that is designated and manufactured for operation on a golf course for sporting or recreational purposes and that is not capable of exceeding speeds of 20 miles per hour.” Golf carts may be operated on roadways that are designated for golf carts with a maximum speed limit of 30 mph.

Low-speed vehicles (LSVs) are defined as “any four-wheeled vehicle whose top speed is greater than 20 miles per hour, but not greater than 25 miles per hour.” LSVs are required to be registered, titled and insured with personal injury (PIP) and property damage liability (PDL) insurance. These vehicles can only be operated on streets where the speed limit is 35 mph or less. Some golf carts may be converted to LSVs and the distinction may not be apparent at first, but once a golf cart is street legal, it will require golf cart insurance.

GOLF CART INSURANCE COVERAGE

Insurance requirements for golf carts vary, but it is worth having even if it is not mandatory. If you are uninsured and in an accident involving your golf cart, you may be responsible for injured person’s medical bills and/or any damages caused; even if you were not behind the wheel at the time. Adding a golf cart to an existing homeowners insurance policy may give you some coverage, but it is limited and there are many common situations that could leave you without protection.

A stand-alone golf cart insurance policy would likely include broader protections, including medical payment coverage, liability coverage, collision coverage, uninsured motorist coverage and comprehensive coverage for events such as theft, vandalism, flood, wind and fire.
